A
Note From the Coach
My son’s summer vacation has concluded and he has returned home to his mother in North Carolina.
It was too much fun being able to spend time with him. One of the
benefits of not being together all the time is that just being
together is the best thing there is to do.
Going out and doing things is always fun, but the key is that you are sharing time and space together.
Working from home is a blessing in that it gives you the freedom and
flexibility to live your life on your terms and focus on the
things that are most important to you.

Don’t Be An Island
Although working from home is a blessing, it does present it’s own unique opportunities.
Typically, you are doing what you love to do, and it is easy to lose
track of how much time you are putting in. Especially if you are not
quite producing the cashflow you desire yet.
Without clear boundaries of office time and clarity on other activities
to give you the balanced, fulfilling life you desire, it is so easy to
find yourself in an isolated space.
Although you are not a needy person, human beings are, by design,
social creatures. When you are sharing energy with those in a similar
space & intention as you, it is exciting and energizing.
I was reading recently about the expression “No man is an island”.
Its essential meaning is: Human beings do not thrive when isolated from
others. The origin of the phrase is credited to John Donne (1572-1631).
Do you find yourself being an island at times? Do you prefer to reach
out, interact and connect, or do you prefer solitude and to figure
things out by yourself?
There is no right or wrong answer. You are capable, powerful and
complete. There simply are times when the optimal course of action is
to leverage the experience, wisdom and assistance of others.
If you are strongly independent by nature, your default reaction to
adversity may be to batten down the hatches, dig in and prepare to
endure. In this instance, you will be falling back on your base habits
and programming. If they serve you well, then you’re in business.
If they don’t then the isolation approach is disempowering you
and can actually assist in moving you further away from that which you
desire.
The most toxic phrases in the English language are “should
be” and “supposed to be”. Ie: “I should be
doing better than this”, or “I’m supposed to be more
successful than I am.”
If you hear yourself using these phrases in relation to your life or your business, stop!
When you are an island, the only frame of reference you have to
anything is your own. If you are not quite in a good space about
things, that may not serve you.
When you connect and interact with others, you are allowing yourself to
be in a different space. Knowing that others are facing the same
opportunities as you helps lessen the load. Plus, you have people you
can now interact with to co-create solutions and hold each other
accountable to move forward.
Your support system cannot support you if they do not know what you
need. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. It is not a sign of
weakness, it is actually a sign of strength.
If someone you loved were struggling with something and asking you for
help would get them back in the flow, what would you do? Would you be
disdainful of them for being weak or needy? Or, would you be proud of
them for reaching out and giving you the opportunity to be there for
them?
Have you ever noticed that it is always so much easier to help others than it is to help yourself?
Mark Victor Hansen says that 1+1 = 11. When you do bring energy
together with others, the results are not just a combination, they are
exponential.
If it is your nature to be an island when at certain times, it may take some attention and effort to shift.
Simply being aware of your desire to connect instead of isolating is your first step.
Islands are wonderful places to go visit and celebrate your success.
What will you do with your next opportunity? Will you be an island, or
will you be the successful, interdependent person that you are?

Outsource the Tech Stuff
Many
entrepreneurs try to learn too much. To be successful in business, you
must focus on your core income-producing, business-enhancing
activities.
Any task that does not fit these categories is not contributing to your success.
Although it is good to be self-sufficient, how much of your time and
energy should you expend on learning things that are not your forte?
One area in particular that can consume a lot of time is your web
presence. If you have a technical disposition, then you typically
don’t mind setting up your own websites, landing pages, shopping
carts and autoresponders.
If you are not, you can get bogged down very quickly and find yourself getting frustrated with what felt like a simple task.
This is not a reflection on you or your abilities. Everyone has their own areas of talent, expertise and passion.
Highly successful people maximize their strengths and outsource anything which does not fit.
I love technology and I love assisting entrepreneurs with their technology needs.
